UPCYCLING ASHTRAYS INTO CHARGING STATIONS FOR E-BIKES

The Netherlands has banned smoking in train stations and, as part of a pilot project, is converting ashtrays at railway stations into charging stations for e-bikes. As part of a cooperation between the railway company ProRail and the Amsterdam-based firm Lightwell, the ashtrays in the poles are being replaced by sockets.

Two e-bikes can then be charged at the same time there. The iconic design of the poles will remain almost unchanged. These upcycled charging stations are for commuters who ride to work on their e-bikes and also serve to encourage others to switch from the car to the e-bike.
