LARGE COMPANIES' AGILE REACTIONS ON COVID-19

To fight against the spreading coronavirus, big companies are starting to repurpose their factories. Instead of producing i.e. fragrances or cars, they switched to hand sanitizers and ventilators.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk tweeted that he is willing to start producing ventilators for patients with severe symptoms in NYC if there appears a shortage. Using Tesla’s and SpaceX’s factory infrastructure.

Since March 17th the French luxury firm LVMH is producing hand sanitizer in three of their perfume manufacturing facilities. Before COVID-19 the factories where making make-up and perfume for Dior and Givenchy.

Also, German car manufacturers Volkswagen and Daimler are currently building up capacities for making medical supplies such as masks, ventilators and temperature measuring devices.

Quick reactions like these may become a crucial part in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
