Alibaba added an “Online-Excursion”- feature to their live streaming platform “Taobao” in order to help tourism-focused companies in times of COVID-19.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak many countries took measures such as lockdown and quarantine in order to stop the virus from spreading. Consequently, many companies in the tourism sector are struggling with plummeting revenues. Therefore, Chinese company Alibaba decided to add an “online excursion”-feature to their platform Taobao, through which zoos and museums can broadcast guided tours. Equipped with a microphone and helmet-cameras, guides are now able to show their virtual visitors all the exhibits. Even the souvenir shops are implemented in the website.
