1030 Innovation @ van Gogh immersive experience & Andy Warhol Exhibition

The SARS-Cov2 pandemic holds the world in its firm grip for over a year now. With restaurants, cinemas, hotels and other cultural institutions mostly closed in the last months, opportunities for gathering inspiration fell flat. Therefore, our team decided to do a team activity every month (if possible). As soon as museums in Austria were opening their gates again, we decided to do an inspiration-day by visiting the van Gogh immersive experience in Linz and the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Mumok.

On 10th of March, we went by train for an one hour ride to Linz to our first destination of the day. In a repurposed tobacco factory, we got to experience art by Vincent van Gogh in a new, immersive and digital way.

The main part of the exhibition was a big hall in which visitors could sit down and enjoy an about 15 minute long performance of visuals derived from van Gogh art pieces, wandering across the walls, accompanied by music and occasionally spoken quotes. In a VR experience we dived into a daily inspiration-walk as Vincent van Gogh wandering through the French countryside.

For our second destination, we went back to Vienna for the Andy Warhol exhibition at the Mumok. The exhibition showed from simple drawing of shoes, over short film projects, all the way to famous print pieces by Warhol. “Misfitting together”, which is the title of the exhibition is based on a quote by Warhol himself: “I was reflecting that most people thought the Factory was a place where everybody had the same attitudes about everything; the truth was, we were all odds-and-ends misfits, somehow misfitting together.” Thus, the exhibition was as well complemented with a variety of historical objects coming from China and random commercial products from the 20th century, not really fitting to the other art pieces – misfitting together.  Click the gallery below to see the art in more detail.

Our artsy field trip not only strengthened our team spirit but also delivered a lot of inspiration for our in many parts creativity-based work as an innovation consultancy. We are for sure looking forward to our next monthly team activity!
